Eating and digestion are daily, life-sustaining events. The digestive system is a group of organs working together to convert food into energy and basic nutrients to feed the entire body. Food passes through a long tube inside the body known as the alimentary canal or the gastrointestinal tract (GI tract). Healthy digestive system is revered in Ayurveda as a cornerstone of well-being and that every disease is believed to arise from inefficient digestion. The fiery metabolic energy of digestion, known as agni , allows us to assimilate food while ridding the body of wastes and toxins (ama).
